2020

The 2020 Prayer Breakfast took place on the morning of Thursday 5th March, with the International Reception taking place the evening before, on Wednesday 4th March.

As 2020 marked the centenary of the Church in Wales, the theme of the St David’s Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast was the rich Christian heritage associated with the Welsh Anglican tradition and our keynote speaker was The Most Reverend John Davies, Archbishop of Wales.

Special guests and contributors included The Rt. Hon. Simon Hart MP, Secretary of State for Wales; Rebecca Evans AM, Minister for Finance and Trefnydd, Welsh Government; Dr Husam Zomlot, Head of the Palestinian Mission to the UK, and many more. We were also joined by representatives from National Prayer Breakfasts across Europe. Prayers for the Nation were led by Sian Rees of the Evangelical Alliance, with a Blessing by Major David Emery MBE, Members’ Chaplain.

The National Library of Wales exhibited a selection of rare manuscripts and historic Bibles, including an important Welsh translation of the Holy Scriptures, the Parry Bible which was published over 400 years ago. We were grateful to Dr Dafydd Tudur, the Library’s Head of Access and Public Relations who spoke about the exhibition during the International Reception. We were also joined by Professor Norman Doe, Director of the Centre for Law and Religion at Cardiff University, who spoke about his book ‘A New History of the Church in Wales’, published to mark the centenary.

The Sound of Wales performed pieces such as “Guide Me Oh Thou Great Jehovah” and “Dyma Gariad”. Huw and Elizabeth Priday performed “The Lord’s Prayer”.
