2023

The 2023 Prayer Breakfast took place on the morning of Thursday 2nd March, with the International Reception taking place the evening before, on St David’s Day, Wednesday 1st March.
The theme of the 2023 St David’s Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast was “Pilgrimage” and our keynote speaker was Sian Rees, Head of Bible Society in Wales.
Special guests and contributors included The Rt. Hon. Elin Jones MS, Presiding Officer of the Welsh Parliament; Mick Antoniw MS, Counsel General and Minister for the Constitution, Welsh Government; Alojz Peterle, Former Prime Minister of Slovenia; Dr Husam Zomlot, Head of the Palestinian Mission to the UK, and many more. We were also joined by representatives from National Prayer Breakfasts across Europe. Prayers for the Nation were led by Nathan Sadler of the Evangelical Alliance, with a Blessing by Roy Godwin of Godwin Ministries.
The National Library of Wales exhibited a selection of rare manuscripts and historic Bibles from their extensive archives during the events, and we were grateful to Lona Mason, Head of Graphic and Conservation, who spoke about the exhibition during the International Reception.
During the International Reception, we took time to reflect and remember the ongoing war in Ukraine. We were thankful to be joined by and hear from Mick Antoniw MS, Counsel General and Minister for the Constitution; Vitalii Borovko, Political Councillor; Mykola Kuleba, Chief Executive of Founder and Chief Executive of Save Ukraine and Ukrainian refugee, Tatiana Gumenyuk, who each spoke of their experience of the war.
We were also joined by The Most Reverend Andrew John, Archbishop of Wales, and The Most Reverend Mark O’Toole, Archbishop of Cardiff, who led us in prayers for Wales, and Ukraine.
The Sound of Wales performed “I’ll raise a Hallelujah“, “Dyma Gariad”, “What a Beautiful Name it is” and “Prayer for Wales” at the Prayer Breakfast, and the award winning Cor Meibion Taf performed “Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah”, “Calon Lan”, “Gwahoddiad” and the Welsh National Anthem, “Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau” at the International Reception. Guests also enjoyed performances by the renowned Welsh harpist, Bethan Semmens, at both events.
